Sunday January 27:
Over fifty Trumpeter Swans were seen at the Ugly Dwarf Meadows in Nanoose
Bay.

Saturday January 26:
An Anna's Hummingbird was coming to feeders in the 100 block of Walkem Road
in Ladysmith.
A female and two male Townsend's Warbler's are coming to suet feeders in the
1100 block of Stymie Close, Qualicum Beach.
A Townsend's Warbler and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet were visiting feeders along
Shoreline Drive in Nanaimo.

Thursday January 24:
A Red-tailed Hawk was spotted in a tall Fir Tree just off Corfield Street in
Parksville.
Seven Cedar Waxwings and American Robins were feeding on Holly berries and
as well, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, thirty Pine Siskins, European Starlings and
Bushtits were feeding at bird feeders along Beaconsfield Road in Nanaimo .
Dark-eyed Juncos were feeding on the ground and a Bewick's Wren was spotted
on a Plum Tree.

Wednesday January 23:
The Wednesday Bird Walk went to the Little Qualicum River Estuary.
Among the highlights was the sighting of a Bonaparte's Gull near the
shoreline. The Black Scoters as well as the Pine Siskins were singing.
Several Great Blue Herons were in roosting in their usual spot on the
estuary.
Seven birders found the following forty-one species:
Canada Goose, Trumpeter Swan, American Wigeon, Mallard, Northern
Pintail,Green-winged Teal, Greater Scaup, Harlequin Duck, Surf Scoter,
White-winged Scoter, Black Scoter, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Barrow's
Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Pacific Loon, Common
Loon,
Horned Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle,
Killdeer, Black Oystercatcher, Black Turnstone, Bonaparte's Gull, Mew Gull,
Thayer's Gull, Western Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull, Belted Kingfisher,
Northwestern Crow, Common Raven, Bewick's Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet,
Golden-crowned Kinglet, Spotted Towhee, Dark-eyed Junco, Red-winged
Blackbird, House Finch and Pine Siskin.

Tuesday January 22:
Canada Goose, Brant, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Mallard, Northern Pintail,
Green-winged Teal, Greater Scaup, Harlequin Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed
Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Barrow's Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser,
Common Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Pacific Loon, Common Loon,
Horned Grebe, Double-crested Cormorant , Pelagic Cormorant, Great Blue
Heron,Bald Eagle, Black-bellied Plover, Black Turnstone, Dunlin, Mew Gull,
Thayer's Gull, Western Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull, Marbled Murrelet, Downy
Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Hutton's Vireo, Northwestern Crow, Common
Raven, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper,
Bewick's Wren, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet,
Spotted Towhee, Song Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Purple Finch, House Finch,
Red Crossbill and Pine Siskins were seen at the Englishman River Estuary,
Shelly Road side.

Monday January 21:
A Red-tailed Hawk was seen perched high in a tree on the east side of
Highway One a little north of the Cedar Exit in south Nanaimo.
A Townsend's Warbler was seen in the 1900 block of Bay Street in Nanaimo.

Friday January 18:
A Black Oystercatcher was spotted in Ladysmith Harbour between Transfer
Beach and the Maritime Society Wharf in Ladysmith.

Tuesday January 15:
An Indigo Bunting was seen in the early morning and again late in the
afternoon in Ucluelet.

The Wednesday Bird Walk on January 30, 2008 will be going to the Englishman
River Estuary Shelly Road side. We will meet at the Parksville Visitor
Centre at Highway 19A and Northwest Bay Road, near Craig Bay in Parksville,
at 9:00 AM or at the Oceanside end of Shelly Road at about 9:10 A.M.

Everyone is welcome to join us on the Sunday Bird Walks. We leave from the
Store at 9 am most Sunday Mornings and go to a different location in and
around Nanaimo for a 2-3 hour bird walk.

The Sunday Bird Walk on February 03, 2008 will be going to Nanaimo River
Estuary.
We will meet at the Bird Store at 9:00 a.m. or at the end of Raines Road at
about 9:30 a.m.
