Subject: [Tweeters] prompting bird song - finches and chickadees

So I was doing some bird watching in the yard today and got curious about a
finch I saw so I headed to birdweb.org. I determined that it is a HOUSE
FINCH and not a Cassin's Finch, the song being the clincher.

I started poking around bridweb.org and played the song of a Black-capped
Chickadee. The Chickadees in the backyard were singing their usual
chicka-dee-dee-dee song and I played the birdweb version of the three long
note song from birdweb (with the window open in my office). Within 10
seconds a Chickadee in the backyard responded with this new song. Up to
this point all day long the Chickadees were singing their usuall song and
after I played the birdweb song they switched. It was pretty neat.

After a while the Chickadee in the yard stopped singing the new song and
switched back. An hour later I played the birdweb version and it switched
to the new one again. It flew all over the backyard looking all over the
place, I think, for the singer of this song.

I did feel like I was tricking the poor bird, but it was facinating all the
same.

Anyone else do this before?

Happy Birding,
