Dawn,

No, what you have there is an "intergrade" since "yellow-shafted" and "red-shafted" are not sperate species but merely sub-species of Northern Flicker.

Subject: [Tweeters] Hybrid Flicker?

Hi Tweets,

I have 5 Varied Thrush and one Northern Flicker with a red mustache and red nape, all picking away in the driveway. And is there a chance of a photo or two, nope nada. not going to happen.
So is this flicker a hybrid then?
Oh and I had a Hermit Thrush yesterday for bird 37 so far this year, and a first time yard bird.
