Yesterday, Jan. 30, Victor and I headed over to the fish pens
downstream of Grand Coulee Dam, being primed by Bill Tweit's suggestion
of gulls. We were hoping to find the Black-headed Gull or a Mew Gull
for Okanogan County's 2008 list. Instead, we found a Lesser
Black-backed adult lounging on the fish pens with many other gulls; it
was obviously different with the naked eye, but also posed and flew for
scope views for two hours before flying upstream.

The flats along the Columbia River there have a large concentration of
raptors right now, whereas we found virtually none in the plateau
country (Omak Lake and Cameron Lakes Road).
