Today 7 of us started out with the idea of walking the full loop for the first time this year. By the time we got to McAllister Creek we were wet and cold and the wind was blowing so smarter heads prevailed. We deferred the full loop until next week. We then did the interior walk that we had done all winter.

It was wet and cold and not much was out except MEW GULLS. We must have seen 300 or more working the grass fields out beyond the twin barns. I did not see any other kind of gull in this loose flock.

Other highlights included a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE that was seen along the trail to McAllister Creek near the parking lot. Several WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen near the twin barns, and we finally saw a FOX SPARROW, our first of the year, out near the ring dike.

Everything else was in ones and twos and scattered. All told we saw 46 species with the 3 species mentioned above being new for the year.

The only mammal seen was a HARBOR SEAL in the Nisqually River.
