Hello everyone,

Because I posted earlier in the "failed nestboxes" discussion, I thought I should report that "our" VG Swallows are now busily feeding chicks in the nest box. I first noticed a faint twittering on June 22, so they likely hatched around then. The chicks are still too young to reach the entrance, but they're now hollering quite healthily with each parent arrival and they keep up a low-level twittering in between. This is a very late hatching compared with 2005, '06, and '07 (when they fledged on July 4). But I'm just very pleased that the parents hung in there and finally got a brood going. Now that the weather is truly summerish, I'm cautiously hopeful they will fledge successfully.

Ever hopeful,
Kristi
P.S. We have DE Juncos all year round. We are a few hundred feet above sea level "on the hill" in Anacortes.
