Hi Tweeters: It turns out that the nesting PEREGRINE FALCONS have been confirmed at the Deception Crags Climbing Area in North Bend, as I posted on Tweeters Sunday 6/29.
?
I e-mailed Fish and Wildlife on Sunday and got this reply:
?
"Ms. Brown:My assistant and I visited the below site today and confirmed an active
peregrine falcon territory. An adult brought in a prey item, perched on
a ledge next to the public trail within 20 feet of two climbers, and
then left to an unknown location. Distress calls were heard during this
interaction. We were not able to locate the nest site. I have contacted our Olympia office for direction on how to?proceed and will keep you informed. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Russell"

This might be a great opportunity for birders to "adopt" this nest and do some gentle, non-confrontational education among the young climbers who will be thronging this area over the weekend. In fact, the climbers may have known about these birds for some time. If I weren't going away for the weekend, I'd go out there with a clipboard and help. But maybe working with DFW, Tweeters subscribers can help these birds and even recruit some new birders among the climbers. I will update DFW as I get updates.

Good luck and good birding! Liz Brown, Edmonds, Wash.
