Tweets,

Today 16 of us walked the outer dike at Nisqually under partly cloudy skies
and cool to warm temperatures. It was a great day for a walk and the birds
cooperated nicely.

Highlights included a couple of calling VIRGINIA RAIL along the trail out
near McAllister Creek. They were very vocal and eventually everyone got good
looks at them. Another highlight was a PEREGRINE FALCON perched on the tree
line near Luhr Beach. He was quite a ways off but we got good scope views.
WE also saw a GREEN HERON inside the slough as we neared the Nisqually River
side and we saw an AMERICAN BITTERN at the ring dike.

We had five swallow species and a PURPLE MARTIN and saw MALLARDS, WOOD
DUCKS, and PIED-BILLED GREBES with young. We had both YELLOWLEGS and a half dozen
or so WESTERN SANDPIPERS.

All told we saw 51 species for the day with the PURPLE MARTIN being new for
the year giving us 132 species for the year.

It was a great day for mammals that included COLUMBIAN BLACK-TAILED DEER,
MUSKRAT, MINK, and a family of RIVER OTTERS sunning themselves on the bank
near the McAllister Creek photo blind trail.

Until next week.....
