Hello, Tweeters:

Reading Martha Jordan's message this morning, I was pretty jealous to read
about her young-woodpeckers sighting, especially since I'd seen adults in
Lincoln Park (West Seattle) but never a nest or young.

My joy probably equalled hers this afternoon, though, when I found a nest
right here in Lincoln Park, complete with croaking young! His or her little
pink-topped head was reaching out of a hole in a madrone, gurgling, hissing,
croaking, and outright calling to the adults nearby. One of the adults
landed and began feeding the little one.

Then my good fortune increased even further when a terrific photographer
came by, and showed me her marvelous photos of the young from recent weeks.
I encouraged her to set up a website with her photos and then sign onto
Tweeters so you can see them too. (Wonderful Photographer, Tweeters
discourages direct posting of photos onto the list to save space, but you
