Hello Tweeters,
It been a long time since I birded the area around Tenino.Patrick was so
fond of all the area, where we always came up with good birds.Jim Pruske and
I followed the direction Paul Hicks wrote in his message, here are the birds
we found at Scatter creek Bulge near Marsh Street .We parked on the bridge
and walked by foot Common Yellowthroat,,Towhee ,A.Robins
A.Goldfinches,Song Sparrows,Swainson's Trushes, Violet green Swallows,
Raven,Red-eyed Vireo.Western Wood Pewee, Willow Flycatcher. We would have
stayed longer, but the re was heavy traffic and standing on the bridge ,we
could not hear the birds that good. The habitat is terrific on this spot and
since there is a creek there attracting a lot of birds.Early in the morning
and maybe late in the evening would be best.
So than we went to Melville Road, where we for the first thirty minutes had
no birds at all,but a A.Kestrel flow in and circled around,we heard birds
singing but did not show,But finally not in the Scotch Broom, but in the fir
trees across the road we heard finally the Lazuli Bunting singing,it took
for a while before this birds show, there where 3 to 4 birds, but really
seeing them took a while, there was kind of flying low and never close to the
road. One male came fairly close, but he was sitting low also.Anyway we saw
least three and heard 4 Lazuli Buntings and we was happy at that..The Fir
trees where Douglas 2nd growth.Further down the road we had Shipping
Sparrows White-crowned Sparrow(only heard),Brown-headed Cowbirds, Western
Tanager,A.Robin, Common Yellowthroat Northern Flickers.
Mull/Churchill/SR 507 produced Red -eye Vireo, California Quails
,Black-capped Chickadee,Barn Swallow,Red-winged Blackbirds
We drove to Nisqually Finnish our day when I urn in to Lonnie Somer told me
that he had the Bairds Sandpiper earlier, but going the trail on McAllister
produced lesser Shorebirds than I had on Saturday, and we did not found the
Bairds Sandpiper back, but there where more Least Sandpipers today. So it
changed every day,the tide was so far out,if this make the difference. All in
all we had a great time birding a different area and it is not that far to
drive.

Cheers Ruth Sullivan and Jim Pruske
