Hi Louise,

I participated in a nightjar survey for the Center for Conservation
Biology two weekends ago and found a number of Poorwills along the
route, which is the 10 miles of Umptanum Road south and west of the
intersection with Riverbottom Road. This is south of Ellensburg.

Four of the birds were heard only, but at least five individuals were
detected including one seen on the road. None were detected until the
section of the route along the top of the ridge was reached.
Poorwills are most active during moonlit nights.
