Tweets,

Yesterday 15 of us walked the interior portion of Nisqually under sunny
skies and warm conditions. There isn't much water inside the refuge right now
and there weren't many waterfowls to be seen.

Highlight included 4 AMERICAN BITTERN sightings, all along the trail to
McAllister Creek, two were flying. Other highlights included a HAIRY WOODPECKER
and a family of BROWN CREEPERS in the same general area along the Nisqually
River side of the boardwalk.

Generally things were pretty quiet with lots of swallows around along with
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and YELLOW WARBLERS. The only swallow we missed was the
NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW.

We also saw a female BELTED KINGFISHER with a begging youngster and several
other fledglings begging for food.

All told we saw 43 species with nothing new for the year.

Mammals seen included a couple of MINK near the willows on the way to
McAllister Creek and a HARBOR SEAL near the Nisqually River overlook.

Until next week when Eric Slagle will lead the walk.....
