Dearest Tweets,

Went to "The Fill" (Union Bay Natural Area) for what I fully expected
to be a mid summer yawn. It was anything but. Arriving at 8PM, and
birding the entire loop trail until 10PM, the following species were
seen:

White-crowned Sparrow, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow, Cedar Waxwing,
Red-winged Blackbird, Northwest Crow, Eurpoean Starling, Common
Yellowthroat, Mallard, Wood Duck, Pied-billed Grebe (with chicks in
tow), a pair of Long-billed Dowitchers, Marsh Wren, Bald Eagle (2),
Peregrine Falcon, Savannah Sparrow, Great Blue Heron, Killdeer, Canada
Goose, and a gorgeous, absolutely silent, Barn Owl that flew within
feet of me. The Owl then landed on a branch of a nearby tree and
proceeded to study me with a constantly rotating head - displaying an
astounding amount of curiosity and not an ounce of fear or
apprehension.

Next report will be a summary of my unsuccessful, but otherwise
rewarding, search for the White-headed Woodpecker at Wenas Campground
(hint: the Woodpecker may be easier to find than the Campground - a
problem since corrected thanks to satellite imaging!).

Cheers,
