Last week I was working just offshore at the DesMoines Marina. It was
lowish tide and several GBHs were out and about. Two of them were obviously
having a turf tussle. One flew at another who was standing in ankle deep
water, it flew up to avoid a collision. Both began a lengthy aerial
argument with one chasing the other. At one point the chaser struck out
with its neck to stab at the bird ahead of it. I saw this happen several
more times as they dipped and flapped around the nearshore area. Then both
flew up and away from the beach.
I saw this in a shorter version the next day in the same area.
Has anyone else seen behavior like this in GBHs? Amazing to watch.
