Today (Saturday, 19 July 2008) at the River S Unit of Ridgefield NWR in
Clark County I was very surpised to see a juvenile BLACK TERN. This is the
first time I've encountered a BLACK TERN at Ridgefield. As per posts to
OBOL, an immature Black Tern was seen on July 13 at sewage ponds in
Philomath, Oregon, which is about 100 miles or so south of Ridgefield.

On Rest Lake, I saw a lone EARED GREBE. I'm assuming it is the one first
reported by Bill Clemons back in May.

Also of note for this location was a flock of six COMMON RAVENS. The Ravens
flew north around 5:30. This is only the second time I've encountered this
species at this location.

As expected, juvenile AMERICAN COOTS of various ages were present, as were
juvenile PIED-BILLED GREBES. A couple of AMERICAN BITTERNS were active in
the middle of the day, too.
