Yakkers,

We found an adult male Black-backed Woodpecker in the Little Naches River
drainage today. It was in an area burned in 2007.

>From Yakima, go west 15 miles on US-12 to SR-410 (Chinook Pass Hwy). Here go
right on SR-410 and in 24 miles turn right on FR-19 (Little Naches Road).

Go 2.7 miles on FR-19 to FR-1902. Turn left here and cross the
river, proceeding 0.4 mile along this road to its junction with FR-1920.
Keep right on FR-1902 (signed to Raven's Roost), cross Crow Creek (American
Dipper today), then in less than 0.1 mile turn right on FR-1921 (FR 1902
turns left signed Raven's Roost 13 miles). From this point go 1.9 miles on
FR-1921 to FR-840. Go right here 0.8 mile to a burn and parking slot on your
right. Pull in here.We saw the woodpecker working the burned Grand Firs just
off to the left. It was making frequent forays off to the northwest with
food in its bill, probably to its nest.
