There are fledgling coops in my neighborhood also. There are three of them,
loud and they tend to all want to land on the same branch in the same place,
perhaps sorting out some kind of sibling rivalry. When a parent with food
approaches, you can hear the commotion quite a distance away. I had all
three rummaging around in the thicket in my backyard this morning, crashing
and crying. They reminded me of a teenage garage band, loud but not very
coordinated. They suddenly all went quiet and after a few minutes flew, one
after the other into the woods. Not sure what provoked the change but there
have been Barred owls about also. They were back, noisy as ever a bit later
and this brought out alarm calls from a couple Douglas squirrels and a
chipmunk. Even our taciturn mailman stopped and asked, what the heck was
all the racket about.
