Hi Tweeters,

I drove up to Cape Flattery today with my son Deyland. It was more of a trip just to see the area than it was for birding. The weather was great, sunny and in the 60s, and there was almost no wind. PIGEON GUILLEMOTS were actively flying back and forth to their cliff burrows as well as swimming about. A very large raft of COMMON MURRES were swimming out near Tatoosh Island, probably comprising a few hundred individuals. Two small, dark alcids flew by the island which I think may have been RHINOCEROS AUKLETS, but they were too far away for me to be certain. PELAGIC CORMORANTS were also very numerous. We saw 6 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS on the rocks as well. We did not see any Puffins or Black Swifts, unfortuneately. There were also a number of sea lions hauled out on one of the little islets. It was our first time there, and we were both impressed by the beauty of the location. On the way out, we saw 3 adult and 1 juvenile BALD EAGLES on 1 tree, not far from the Makah Mus!
eum as
well as 1 A. KESTREL on a telephone wire a mile or two beyond that.

May the force be with you,
