what_shorebird.html

I'm not the most skilled at fall peeps, but I think I saw about 5
Semipalmated Sandpipers at the pond just east of the 3 Crabs
Restaurant near Sequim in Wednesday afternoon, 7/30. Photos at the
link. They were with about 30 Western Sandpipers, and one each
Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs. There was also at least one Least
Sandpiper, and some very shrill Killdeer.

On the beach side there were several thousand California Gulls and a
huddled mass of 15 Marbled Godwit. When a man came to feed bread to
the multitudes, only the juvie Glacous Wings formed a rugby scrum to
fight over the crumbs, with the Californias looking on haughtily.
"We've above all that," they seemed to say.
