Hello Tweeters:
I'm pretty sure PURPLE FINCHES are breeding in my Des Moines neighborhood this year.
This is very late to have them in the lowlands. They are still around singing their
liquid song, and chasing each other while calling, pit, pit.
And I have hopes that I finally can document breeding WESTERN TANAGERS in the woods
of Des Moines Creek Park. There are a few singing in the woods, mostly in the tops
of conifers. In the past, I had not been able to document that they bred here.
There has not been an Olive-sided Flycatcher calling here yet. We usually get those
at lower Des Moines Creek Park.
The Des Creek Park trail is open (for now), despite a gate across the trail in the
upper part of Des Moines Beach Park. Just walk around it, and you can walk all the
way up past the Waste Water Treatment Plant and on up the trail, a distance of over 2
miles to S 200th St. For awhile, at least...
