Hi Tweets:
This is a little off-topic. It's about the WOS Conference. (So I'll also send
another msg to Tweets about Des Moines Birds.)

WOS Conference DIRECTIONS: There are several websites describing the directions to
the WOS Conference in Walla Walla, June 5-9. You can click on www.wos.org, or you
can click on the websites in the fwded msg below.
Here is a quick evaluation of the directions and maps.
The Whitman college site says the time it takes to reach Walla Walla from Seattle is
4.5 hours. I intend to go low (take the Yakima Canyon Rt instead of the high I-82
route over 3 passes), and slow (go less than the speed limit) in order to save money
for gas. So the time it takes me to get there might be greater than 5 hours,
especially if I make one or two stops.

The map provided of the campus is quite beautiful, but not entirely practical, as you
can barely read the street names. So here are some directions from me, for what they
are worth.
DIRECTIONS:
>From Seattle take I-90 to Ellensburg, then I'll take the 2nd exit in Ellensburg, and
turn south on Canyon Rd (hwy 821), which is a beautiful route through Yakima Canyon.
(Or you can take I-82 south from I-90, and go over 3 passes.) At the bottom of
Yakima Canyon, where it flattens out and becomes farms, I'll get back onto I-82 and
continue south past Yakima. Near Tri-Cities, I'll take exit 102 onto I-182/hwy 12.
I'll continue east on this hwy 12 all the way to Walla Walla. After hwy 12 enters
Walla Walla, turn right onto Clinton St. After about 1 mile, turn right on Boyer
Ave. You will be on the Whitman College Campus in about 2 blocks.

Campus DIRECTIONS:
Using the college map which is pretty, but kind of hard to read: Boyer Ave is the
lower Ave running east-west. It's in the lower area of the campus.
REGIST/CHECK-IN DESK: The bldg where we will check in for registration packets, and
where some us will stay in a residence hall is #11, Jewett Hall. It is in the upper
right of the campus, and is bldg number 11. It is on Isaac's Ave, which is the
more-northerly east-west ave on the north side of the campus. Jewett Hall is on the
north side of a large grassy square, like the UW quad.
FRI NIGHT SOCIAL - On the south side of the grassy square is #2, Maxey Hall. It's a
large bldg. That is where the Fri night social, and Mike Denny's talk will be. So I
guess those of us staying in the #11 Jewett Hall/Registration desk bldg, can simply
walk across the grassy square to get to the social.
FIELD TRIP DEPARTURES: The parking lot for the field trips appears to be by bldg #7,
the Hall of Science. It is on the west side of the campus, by a theater.
SAT NIGHT BANQUET DINNER/BOARD MTG.: On Sat night, we will be a couple of blocks SW
of the campus, at the First Congregational Church, 73 S. Palouse St.
See links to websites below w/ more maps and directions if needed.
