There is a search for Western Bluebirds in the greater San Juan Islands Saturday, June 7th from 7:30 to 10:30am. The center of the search is San Juan Island where eight pair of adult birds were translocated this spring. Four pair are known to be nesting on San Juan (with four to six chicks each) but the other four have not been seen since their release. They may have flown back to Ft. Lewis as some did last year or they may have settled in suitable habitat nearby like north Whidbey Island. There are no sightings of the birds moved to San Juan Island last year (one pair did breed and raised three male birds). All the birds from both years have color bands on both legs except last year's three chicks as the nest site was not located. This year's chicks have been banded. Report your sightings to : skylark at rockisland.com
