How about a Swainson's Thrush? They certainly have a distinctive whistled
call and are heard frequently at dusk or while skulking in underbrush.

Their song of course is completely different, a series of lovely ascending
flute like notes (which you can hear at www.birdweb.org.) But the call is
a single whistle that sounds like suweet or whit.

"Suweet? Suweet? Suweet?...."



It's a clear whistled phrase, repeated, without other ornamentation.



Whoever it is, they hide well. I heard this today at Pritchard Beach in a

willow thicket, at Martha Washington from a oak thicket and from the
neighbor's

oak tree just now at dusk. I? have yet to see who it is.





Ideas?
