hello all:

swmbo and i drove around skagit county a bit today. we decided to take the
loop drive around march point and saw literally thousands of GREAT BLUE
HERONS standing in the shallow water of the mudflats on the padilla bay side
of march point (best estimate is around five thousand based on a couple of
transect counts). they didn't appear to be feeding or hunting. there were
always at least a few in the air but nothing in the way of confrontations or
suchlike. there were only a few on the fidalgo bay side of the point (where
there were also two or three dozen CASPIAN TERNS). does anyone know what
they were doing?

regards,

dave tee
