Internship to Study Pigeon Guillemots

The Whidbey Audubon Society and the Island County Marine Resources
Committee are looking for a college or advanced high school student to
determine the species of fish Pigeon Guillemots deliver to their chicks.
These birds nest in colonies in burrows in the bluffs of Whidbey Island.

The internship will begin in the last week of June and continue through
the first 2 weeks of August. The student will spend several hours each
day at one of several colonies around Whidbey Island determined by the
project director. When a bird is spotted carrying a fish, the student
will identify the species of fish and record the burrow where the fish
is delivered.

The intern must provide and be comfortable using a binocular, spotting
scope and camera. The project directors will train the student in fish
and bird identification. Compensation commensurate with the student?s
background and knowledge is available as well as some funds for expenses.
