Rare Bird Alert for a LESSER GOLDFINCH


Sightings for Thursday, June 12th:

A male LESSER GOLDFINCH is visiting thistle feeders at 2093 Topaz
Street in Abbotsford. Birders are welcome to enter the backyard via
the carport. The bird was first seen on June 11th.

Three GRAY CATBIRDS were observed along Rannie Road on the way to Grant
Narrows in Pitt Meadows, with another 2 along the Nature Dike Trail at Pitt
Lake.


Sightings for Tuesday, June 10th:

500 to 600 low-flying BLACK SWIFTS were seen by one observer as he
drove along 34B Ave at 64th Street past the Boundary Bay Airport and
along Hwy 10 toward Scott Road in Delta.

A pair of WESTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at Colony Farm Regional Park in
Coquitlam.


Sightings for Monday, June 9th:

A FRANKLIN'S GULL was seen at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.


No sightings reported for Friday, June 8th


Sightings for Saturday, June 7th:

A BROWN PELICAN was seen at Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts,
Washington.

A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen near 13th Ave and 160th St in South Surrey.


Sightings for Friday, June 6th:

A male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was seen near the bridge at the
Maplewood Conservation Area, North Vancouver, and a female LAZULI BUNTING
was at the point east of the bridge.


No sightings reported for Tuesday, June 5th


Sightings for Wednesday, June 4th:

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was photographed in West Vancouver, but
access is presently unavailable to this location.

2 RED-EYED VIREOS, the first report of the spring, were observed at
Surrey Lake Park, on 152nd Street in Surrey.

A male LAZULI BUNTING at Iona Island in Richmond was very unusual for that
locality.


Sightings for Tuesday, June 3rd:

The male REDHEAD continues at the pond at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver.


Sightings for Monday, June 2nd:

A 2nd winter GLAUCOUS GULL was reported from the Stanley Park seawall in
Vancouver.

A singing LAZULI BUNTING was near the southeast corner of Surrey Lake Park
in Surrey.

A BLACK TERN was seen over Green Lake at Whistler. It is believed to
be the first ever record for the Sea to Sky corridor.

The singing LEAST FLYCATCHER continues along the nature dike trail at Grant
Narrows.


No sightings reported for Saturday, June 1st


Sightings for Saturday, May 31st:

A GRAY CATBIRD along Rannie Road about 1 km from the Grant
Narrows Boat Launch, Pitt Meadows, was the first for the year. Nearby, the
LEAST FLYCATCHER was singing again along the nature dike trail. Also in the
Grant Narrows area were 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 3 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, 2 SANDHILL
CRANES, and 8 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS.

Sightings for Friday, May 30th:

At Pitt Meadows, a LEAST FLYCATCHER was singing 1100 feet along the
nature dike trail at Grant Narrows. Also at Pitt Meadows, a EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVE was seen on the wires along Neaves Road near the bridge
over the South Alouette River.
