Subject: [Tweeters] Hummingbird Activity at Snoqualmie Pass

The Hummingbird feeder activity at Snoqualmie Pass this year has been pretty
amazing. The reason for this is most likely the amount of snow we have had,
and even it is still snowing. Last Sunday it the last bit of snow on the
south side of my house melted, only to have it snow an inch Monday night.
The freezing level has risen but may come back down next week.

Since May 10th nectar use has average over 150 ounces a day (record of 125
ounces a day was established a few years back for a week during the month of
August). Since May 13th it has averaged 165 ounces of nectar use or more
per day with one week of average daily use in the 250-260 ounces of nectar
use per day.

Normally this time of year feeder activity draws to almost nothing!
However, there are no flowers in bloom. Additionally, there is most likely
not very much bug activity. At least I do not have a problem of keeping
them out of my house when I change the feeders at night.

Might the activity stay consistent until the fledgings coming out, which
should be soon? I guess we will wait and see. At the present time, it may
be a little while before things bloom.

Feel free to check out my feeders. Many Audubon groups actually drive by on
the weekends on their way to birding in other parts of Kittitas County.

Take Exit #54. Go south. At HWY 906, go straight. Come to three way stop
(you are on E Hyak Drive). This road curves to the left, down a hill and
curves back to the right. When the road flattens out you will see a fire
hydrant that is covered and that is my house. The feeders are on the left
side of the house (south side).
