I've just returned from a brief vacation on the *sunny* side of the State,
where I got in a little birding on Bateman Island (Columbia Trail Park,
Tri-Cities) where I got to see AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN (7, all soaring
overhead), OSPREY (2), BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK (half a dozen or so), EASTERN
KINGBIRD (several), WESTERN GREBE (2), WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE (2), DC
CORMORANT (1), and plenty of Mourning Doves, quail, swallows, magpies, a
cowbird, and the usual variety of sparrows that I'll need another decade
or more of experience to identify easily.

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, and we didn't have pelicans there then, and
none of my family who still live there can remember seeing them until
maybe 10-15 years ago. Anyone know why this change occurred, do please
let me know -- thanks!
