While out at Graysmarsh this weekend, there was evidence that flycatcher migration was still underway. First, I had a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER in tall firs in the interior of the property. The habitat was favorable for breeding, but I have not had them during the June-to late Aug period here before, as it is at sea-level. Perhaps, given the very cold year, the bird decided to drop its elevation standards a bit. But the possibility of a late migrant has to be there; I also counted 13 W. WOOD-PEWEES on Saturday, and some were clearly not in what would be considered typical breeding habitat. Further, only 5 remained at the same sites the next day. Finally, while WILLOW FLYCATCHERS seemed down, of 3 birds present Saturday, one was in a shrubby forest understory/edge site that was again atypical for a breeder, and the bird was gone on Sunday...At one point far off thought I heard a Cordilleran (Pac-slope is abundant here, had 25-30 birds on territories) but wasn't sure, although I had a calling bird here in early June a couple years back.

Nothing too earth-shaking out there this weekend, but I also had one each COM. NIGHTHAWK and PURPLE MARTIN, two species that have been scarce locally. There was also a Dendroica, sp. singing high atop an old-growth fir, had to have been either a Townsend's or Hermit. There was an amazing profusion of Wild Rose (Rosa nutkana) and Hairy Honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa) blooming at forest edges; try as I might, I was unable to find anything unusual among the numerous Rufous Hummingbirds there.

On the Lords Lake Rd, just west and south of Lake Leland in extreme s.w. Clallam County, I had what seemed like a pretty low-elevation TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at the edge of a clearcut.
