Hello Tweets,

I wonder if anyone else might have witnessed the same high drama I observed
over downtown Bellingham last evening at 6:30? I stepped out of my vehicle
on N. State just south of the Herald building and immediately heard the
raucous calls of Caspian Terns above the noise of traffic. I looked skyward
and noted a scattered flock of about 15 terns swirling at about 500', also
some Glaucous-winged Gulls harrassing a large soaring raptor. I soon ID'd
the cause of their alarm: an adult Bald Eagle casually rising on a downtown
thermal. Closer scrutiny revealed it was carrying something in its talons. I
grabbed my bins from the car and got on the eagle. It was carrying a tern
that was still struggling. I could clearly see its dark cap and long pointed
beak. I have to admit my surprise that an eagle would be able to catch a
tern, an otherwise very fleet and nimble flyer. So this morning I'm
wondering if anyone else happened to see this very public event and might be
able to fill us in on "the rest of the story"?
