Hi Dawn The dragonfly is a female Common Whitetail (the male is strikingly different ). The only reason I know this is because I have Dennis Paulsons "Dragonflies of Washington" in front of me. It's a great little book he wrote, available at Seattle Audubon, only about $7, and very small and easy to carry around with you in the field.
Online you might check out the Slater Museum (Tacoma) webpage ( which Dennis also put together) and go to the biodiversity pages where they have 'scans of western odonates' which are very useful and detailed images.

Hi Tweets,

spotted dragonfly, can anyone tell me what kind? And any recommendations to field guides and on line dragonfly information?
