We have juncos here year round, we are at about 700' elevation. Although
the numbers definitely decrease in the Spring/Summertime, they are still one
of our most common birds year round. We had them nest in a fuchsia basket
out on my 2nd story deck earlier this spring. Four eggs were laid between
May 6-9, and three babies hatched on May 21. By June 1 they had all
fledged. It was really cool having them so close and to be able to watch
them grow and progress.although about halfway through I think the birds
realized they had built their nest in a less than ideal spot.

It is my understanding that Juncos will raise as many as three broods in one
season. I have seen the pair from earlier in the spring gathering cat hair
but they have not reclaimed the fuchsia basket nest.

Subject: [Tweeters] Junco question

Tweets,

A pair of Dark-eyed Juncos nested somewhere near my mothers neighbors yard
this spring... As of a few days ago it appears that they are building a new
nest in her hanging fuchsia basket. Do they raise more than one brood a year
or is it more likely that their previous nest failed before they were the
young hatched or fledged?
