I also had a Common Loon at Tradition Lake, just east of Issaquah on Thursday morning. I have also seen Common Loons both at Lake Sammamish State Park and at Marymoore Park over the past couple of weeks. Failed breeders? Post breeding?

Hi Everyone,

This evening around 6:00 pm, I saw a COMMON LOON fishing in Rattlesnake Lake. It was at the end of the lake nearest to the entry, on the far side of the lake from the boat launch. There are supposedly one or more pairs of loons nesting in the watershed (which of course is off-limits to the public). A friend of mine who works in an administrative position in the watershed said one of the pairs fledged two chicks this year, but the wildlife biologists would not even tell other watershed employees where they were located to protect the birds from any disturbance. There are not very many breeding pairs of loons in the whole state, and particularly this far south in western WA. Perhaps the bird I saw is one of the adults of the nesting pair(s).
