Here in Kenmore, I see Black-throated Gray Warbler about once a year, as they pass through during migration.

Some times I have seen them in spring, sometimes in the fall, and occasionally both; usually only a handful of sightings a year.

On June 8th and June 11th, I saw one bird each day; both sightings were in the same general area at Wallace Swamp Creek Park. I wondered then, if it could have been a pair breeding in the park since I usually see them only in May.

The rest of that week I paid special attention to that area hoping to see more of them, but nothing.

Sorry I didn't fill in the subject line on my last post

Sunday evening, I was walking through the park when I heard an unfamiliar chirping noise. I traced it to where I could see movement in the bushes but not actually see any birds. I'd see a flit and by the time I focused on it, there was only a branch.
Finally, I saw baby birds fluttering wings and begging. I was able to watch one youngster long enough to see the parent bring a meal to the hungry child that's when I realized I was watching BTYWs.

My other highlight of the day happened in the morning when I spotted a lone juvenile Junco foraging on the path in front of me.
I stopped in my tracks and watched as the little fellow consumed grass seeds and an occasional ant, all the while moving closer and closer to me.
Eventually, it passed right by me no more than two inches from my feet. It either never realized that I was there or didn't know he was supposed to be afraid of me.

What a treat for me, Juncos breed in the neighborhood but I never see them in the park during breeding season.

My last note about my beloved park is that I watched a BT pigeon building a nest the other day. Band-tailed pigeons are uncommon at WSCP usually only a few fly-overs a year.
