I saw my first rufous of this year at a Salmonberry flower yesterday
afternoon. This is 7 days earlier than my previous earliest sighting on my
property. There are only maybe a dozen salmonberry open but there is one
feeder up in the neighborhood. I assume these early hummers are migrants on
their way north and I wonder how much the earliest birds depend upon
feeders, since so few flowers are out.

Hi Susan,
I just moved into a new apartment in Issaquah two weeks ago, and within a
day I had a male Rufous Hummer coming to my feeder. This is definately
early. I have heard some may be over-wintering, but I couldn't tell you
which this one may be doing here now.

Tweeters,
I swear I just looked out the window and watched 2 hummingbirds, one a
male Rufous hummingbird, land at my feeder! The other was probably one of
my Anna's but I hardly looked, I couldn't take my eye off the Rufous...they
both fed for a few moments and then zoomed off. I don't know when Rufous
hummers return-this seems early. Was I seeing things??
