Hi Tweets: In the Monday Skagit paper there was a picture of several Bald Eagles having a feast in one of the fields in the Fir Isle area. Yesterday after lunch, we went into the area of Moore/Dry Slough road and saw the action. In the middle of the field was 3 adults and a immature eating something and thought it might be a goose since there is a lot of them around but decided it had to be bigger. Then about 75 yards west of there was another feast going on with 5-6 eagles and discovered it was a dead newborn calf. Supposedly some farmer must have thrown it out in the field to get rid of it. Don't know if that was such a good idea or not as they might get a taste for good young calves. A old rancher in Marin Co., California got in trouble for shooting a Golden that was taking his lambs. That was years ago and perhaps the ranch is covered with homes now. WE also saw the Red-shouldered hawk at Dodge Valley road sitting over the old red combine in back of big house. This was about 10 AM. It was a beautiful day and the workers are in the fields are picking the Daffs.
Good Birding to all.
