Just to add a few things to Stan Kostka's great advice, the Purple Martin
Conservation Association has a great website, full of martin information as
well as a ton of martin products you can order. Their website is:
http://www.purplemartin.org/

In terms of housing type and placement, follow Stan's advice. The martins
out in the west have different nesting habits. Also, the PMCA suggests
playing the martin dawn song to attract martins to new colony sites. It's
not known if this will also attract our western martins to new nesting sites
or not. I have these recordings, so if anyone wants to try them out you are
welcome to borrow them.

Seattle Audubuon is also selling martin gourds in the Nature Shop.
