Hello, Tweeters,

You're all invited to attend the Olympic Bird Fest, April 4 - 6, in
Sequim, WA, sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, Dungeness
River Audubon Center, and Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe. All proceeds
from the festival support the programs of the Dungeness River Audubon
Center, a very worthy cause! Go to www.olympicbirdfest.org for
information and to register.

Lots of great things happening at the festival, which highlights the
great birding on the north Olympic Peninsula. Many field trips to
some of the best birding spots. Boat trips both around Protection
Island (3 hours) and around the San Juan Islands (3 days, April 6 -
8; go to www.olympicpeninsulaaudubon.org and click on San Juan cruise
for details). Salmon Banquet at the Jamestown S'Klallam's fancy
tribal headquarters. Presentation of live raptors by the Northwest
Raptor Center. Owl Prowl in the Owlympics. Field trip to see the
Elwha River dams awaiting removal. Tour of totem pole carving
(including bird totems!) at the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe. And much
more!

Hope to see you.

Also, Scott Gremel, Spotted Owl crew chief for Olympic National Park,
while tracking the newly-released fishers at Hurricane Ridge, reports
that the finch invasion has also reached the subalpine zone of the
Olympics. Scott says they encountered a flock of hundreds of
Cassin's Finches along the winter ski trail to Hurricane Hill, along
with lots of Pine Siskins and at least one Common Redpoll. Cassin's
FInch is a very unusual species on the Olympic Peninsula.

Thanks!
