it has been an exciting day today since ScienceBlogs,
the Seed Media Group site that hosts my blog, crashed
early this morning -- oddly, as i was publishing a
story about the pygmy hippo, which appeared 11 times
on my blog. then, of course, NYstate appears to be in
the throes of losing a governor with no forewarning
(insiders thought it was a joke at first). but despite
everything, i managed to put together an issue of
birds in the news for you to enjoy, this one features
