Tweeters: Seems like the season for gulls. My friend, Richard, found a
possible Mew Gull at the mouth of the Methow River, across from the fruit
stand in Pateros on Sunday, March 9th. At that time it was with a flock
of Coots along the shoreline where you park. He does not use a digital
camera, but got a photo or photos.

Yesterday, we were together and found it on the far shoreline with a mixed
group of mostly diving ducks. I looked at it through his scope and you
could see the amber colored eye. The eye looks smudgy and very dark. The
yellowish-green bill only had a slight ring. From that distance I could
not see any unusual markings on wings or tail.

Later in the day yesterday, after telling some others about the gull, we
were not able to relocate it. The size was not much different from the
flock of ducks, and it could easily hide behind them. I hope some other
birders are in the area and will check gull out. Thanks. Meredith
