Subject: [Tweeters] Rufous Hummer at Marymoor (Redmond, King Co.)

Tweets - I was at Marymoor today, ostensibly there to put up a couple of
swallow boxes, but also hoping for Say's Phoebe (no luck there).

It was pretty birdy, though, so I walked an abbreviated loop.

Between the East Meadow and the east end of the boardwalk, I got more
evidence supporting a theory we came up with last year - that Rufous
Hummingbirds overwinter *inside* Salmonberry blossoms. I walked that
stretch of the trail both Monday and Tuesday and found no open Salmonberry
blossoms, and no Rufous Hummingbirds. Today, there was a single blossom open
and, not 100 yards away, a male Rufous. I don't know how they squeeze into
the bud, but they certainly do pop out of them - there's no other
explanation.
