Hi all,
I stopped by Edmonds Marsh for about 20 minutes this morning before an all
day work meeting (had to brace myself for sitting in a hot room for 8
hours). There was quite a bit of activity along the path at the north end
of the marsh. A male Anna's Hummingbird continues to defend the blackberry
bushes at the northwest corner of the marsh. I watched him chase a House
Finch, a Black-capped Chickadee and a Bushtit as they passed through his
chosen territory. I also snapped several more photos of him, and several
can be found in the New Photos section of my galleries here:
http://www.goatislandimages.com/photogalleries.htm. At the southeast end of
the Marsh, about a dozen Great Blue Herons were circling the treeline near
some old nests. They appeared to want to land there, but the backhoe and
other heavy machinery that was running in the vicinity clearly disturbed
them. All but one ended up landing in the center of the marsh. The single
brave soul that landed in the trees didn't stay there for very long. Does
anyone know the purpose of the current construction project that is
happening at the south end of the marsh? It doesn't appear to be related to
the condos. Is this the beginnings of the new ferry route that they have
been discussing for years?
The entire list from this morning is below. I know there were more birds
out there, but I was a bit obsessed with the hummingbird's antics so I
probably missed several :o).
