hello tweets,

some good news; thanks to captive breeding, a North
Island brown kiwi hatched recently in the National Zoo
in WashDC -- the third chick to ever hatch there and
only the fourth chick to hatch outside of New Zealand!

i am also running a series of images of birds as
"image of the day" from the Yucatan Peninsula, thanks
to a friend of mine, Kevin Sharp (yesterday's image);

these images pop up daily at 3pm EDT.
