Sightings for Friday, March 14th

The immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK, present in Vancouver?s Jericho Park
since mid-January, was seen again near the east pond in the park.

An immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen and photographed in the 4800 block
of 28th Avenue in Delta, west of Highway 17.

Sightings for Wednesday, March 12th

At Surrey Lake, east of 152nd Street near 76th Avenue in Surrey, were a
drake REDHEAD, a RING-NECKED DUCK, and 2 CACKLING GEESE.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 11th

The TUFTED DUCK X SCAUP hybrid was seen again on Lost Lagoon in
Vancouver?s Stanley Park, where it has been for about 3 weeks.


Sightings for Monday, March 10th

In Delta, an adult GYRFALCON was seen along 64th Street between
Highway 10 and Highway 99; 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS were seen along
64th Street; and 4 SHORT-EARED OWL were near the foot of 72nd Street
on Boundary Bay.

In North Vancouver, a SAY?S PHOEBE was seen near Lonsdale Avenue.

An ANNA?S HUMMINGBIRD is being seen regularly in the alpine garden section
of the University of BC Botanical Garden.


Sightings for Sunday, March 9th

An early RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen along the Imperial Trail in
Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver.

Sightings for Saturday, March 8th

A BARRED OWL was heard hooting in mid-afternoon near the equestrian ring
at Joe Brown Park, off 125A Street in Surrey, and a HUTTON?S VIREO was
heard singing nearby.

The first RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year was seen at Point Roberts,
Washington.

Three PINE GROSBEAKS, 2 males and a female, were seen on Selkirk
Crescent in Coquitlam.

Large numbers of RED CROSSBILLS and EVENING GROSBEAKS were
seen in the Squamish area north of Vancouver.


Sightings for Friday, March 7th

At Iona Island in Richmond, 42 TREE SWALLOWS and 2 VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOWS were seen over the swage ponds. Nearby, a SNOWY OWL was
seen along the west shoreline of Sea Island on the Vancouver Airport
property, but it probably is not visible from the public road.


Sightings for Thursday, March 6th

Birds seen at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta included 2 AMERICAN
BITTERNS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 2 SANDHILL CRANES, and 5 TREE
SWALLOWS. In addition, one MUTE SWAN was seen nearby, near the Westham
Island bridge in Canoe Pass.

The EURASIAN form GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen again near the pump
house at the Beach Grove Lagoon in Boundary Bay Regional Park, Delta.

At Blackie Spit Park in Surrey, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 3 MARBLED
GODWITS, and a WESTERN MEADOWLARK were seen.

WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS are still being seen in Manning Provincial Park
east of Vancouver. On this date, 20 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 12 CASSIN?S
FINCHES, and 2 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen near the east gate of Manning Park
on Highway 3.


Sightings for Wednesday, March 5th

At the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, the wintering WILLET was seen
near the base on the south side, a SNOW BUNTING about halfway out, and
a SURFBIRD at the ferry terminal.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen on the Lulu Island west dyke near the west end
of Blundell Road.

At Blackie Spit, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW and 2 MARBLED GODWITS were
seen again.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 4th

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was seen briefly in the 3400 block of West
24th Avenue in Vancouver.


No reports for Monday, March 3rd


Sightings for Sunday, March 2nd

Four AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen along the Boundary Bay dyke
in Delta, just east of 72nd Street. Nearby, at Boundary Bay Regional
Park near the E end of 12th Avenue, 2 EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 72
EURASIAN WIGEON, and 122 BALD EAGLES were reported. Two EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVES were seen along 17A Avenue near 58th Street, near
Beach Grove Park.

At Iona Island in Richmond, a SNOW BUNTING and a GLAUCOUS GULL were
seen along the south jetty, 20 RING-NECKED DUCKS were in the outer pond, and
3 TREE SWALLOWS and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER were around the NW
sewage pond.

Six more RING-NECKED DUCKS were at Green Timbers Lake in Surrey, near
148th Street at 100th Avenue.

In Port Coquitlam, an AMERICAN DIPPER was seen at Oxbow Side Channel Park
near the Coquitlam River.

In Maple Ridge near the north end of 224th Street, 3 species of swallows
were noted in one flock: 16 TREE SWALLOWS, 4 BARN SWALLOWS, and one
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW.


Sightings for Saturday, March 1st

The CLARK?S GREBE, present since mid-January, was seen near the Westham
Island bridge in Delta. Also in Delta were 4 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS just E
of the foot of 72nd Street; an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in a hedgerow along
72nd Street opposite the turf farm; several SURFBIRDS at Berth 1
at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal; and an AMERICAN KESTREL along
Deltaport Way.

In Surrey, the HARRIS?S SPARROW, present for 2 months, was seen again along
188th Street just S of 8th Avenue, and an AMERICAN KESTREL was nearby along 8th Avenue.

At Crescent Park in Surrey, 2 BARRED OWLS were hooting in mid-afternoon, one
of which allowed close views. Also here were a singing HUTTON?S VIREO and
at least 4 RED CROSSBILLS. Nearby at Blackie Spit were the LONG-BILLED
CURLEW, 3 MARBLED GODWITS, and at least 5 EURASIAN WIGEON.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS, 3 CALIFORNIA GULLS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, and many
RED CROSSBILLS were noteworthy.

In Vancouver, a HERMIT THRUSH was seen near 39th Avenue and Yew Street.
