Planning a trip to Othello this weekend, camping, despite the forecast. Your post prompted me to check your new website and I couldn't believe its power!! You guys are awesome! I can't even begin to imagine the work this must have taken and the time commitment to get it done. What is amazing are the "pin points" at each location highlighting a specific feature: where to park, an observation tower, a trail access to an entire area, a grove of trees, or a unique habitat within an area, not to mention the maps themselves. And then the cross-reference pages to Hal Opperman's book A Birder's Guide to Washington. I don't know what else you could have done: a virtual tour on UTube? It doesn't get better then this. I feel so lucky to be able to draw on your caring and talents to enrich my own experience and appreciation of these beautiful lands and the wild creatures that so deserve our protection.

Thank you.

Subject: [Tweeters] New Lower Columbia Basin Birding Locations web page

Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society (LCBAS) is announcing its new Birding Locations web page. http://lowercolumbiabasinaudubon.org/ Click on Birding Locations in the site map. This page is a tremendous tool for finding your way around the basin. Many of the birding locations are in the Tri-Cities of Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco but the site covers locations from Prosser to Palouse Falls and Othello to northeast Oregon.

The features included on this page are quite powerful. Maps to each of the 50 locations were created on Google Maps and there is a link to a tutorial included which will help birders navigate the Google Map features. Choose a location and find out how to get there from any other address.

There is both an alphabetical list and a geographical list of the locations. If a location is in The Birder's Guide to Washington, the page numbers are referenced. When a description of a location mentions migrants or shorebirds, there is a link to a list of these birds. Each bird on the list is then linked to the appropriate species account on the Cornell All About Birds or the Seattle Audubon Bird Web site.

As this is a new feature of the LCBAS website, please let us know if you use it, if it was helpful, or if you find any glitches. Most powerful is that locations can be added and maps can be updated fairly easily.

We are personally excited as we will never have to type directions to the Yakima Delta again! Though Nancy created the maps and most of the text, this would never have been achieved without the superhuman effort of Katie, the LCBAS webmaster and we thank her. Send your praises and suggestions to her at: lcbaswebmaster at yahoo.com
