hi group ... sure am glad someone last week mentioned Tidewater Cove ...
I'd forgotten about it ... I stopped on my way to work this morning "just
to see" ... a nice way to start the morning ...

today --- the Cove itself had about 100 SCAUPS !!!!!! ... I counted 92
myself and then got lost in my count when 2 groups merged ...

question --- would an educated guess be Greater Scaups ??? ... I'm
guessing based on not much experience but just trying to read the books
... the books talk about the large groups of Greater Scaups migrating and
they like the coves and inlets, etc. ... Tidewater Cove is a deep cove (it
someday will be a marina) off the Columbia River ... the Scaup herd hung
out in the deepest part of the Cove where it meets the Columbia ...

also present were two WESTERN GREBES ... one was hanging out with the
Scaups and the other was an independent guy who stayed by himself ... the
last I saw him he was headed into the main Columbia River ...

out on the Columbia near the Cove were a pair of HORNED GREBES fishing ...

other birds --- SPOTTED TOWHEES, GULLS, a pair of MALLARDS, one CORMORANT,
and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS ...

later,
Lyn
