Today I was able to relocate a bluebird at the Steigerwald Lake NWR,
in Clark County, that was reported by Annette Lange Hildebrand as having
been seen on a March 22nd birding trip led by Doug Robberson. It was a
female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, a first for the refuge. The bird was on the
fence line next to the trail at the west end of Red-tail Lake, the only
pond along the Columbia River dike. There is also a new BALD EAGLE nest
along the river side of the dike at about the middle of the pond, for the
first nesting of this species on the refuge.
