I went with a friend down to the Gorge last weekend to primarily look for wildflowers, and took a side trip up to Klickitat to look for a rare plant species. We were heading up a south facing slope with a few Gary Oak and Ponderosa Pine on it overlooking the Klickitat River when a flock of Western Bluebirds moved through. My guess is there were about ten of them and they spent several minutes hunting around us. The wind was strong enough they barely needed to flap their wings to hunt, they just hovered virtually motionless before falling onto their prey. There were several Western Meadowlarks singing, and one Lewis' Woodpecker flew into some oak groves from elsewhere. As we neared the top, a lone Golden Eagle slowly glided about 150' above our heads as it followed the ridgeline. What a treat!
