hello all:

in spite of the snow yesterday the falcon continues to sit her eggs at snoqualmie falls. several people have reported going there and not seeing her, but that appears to be because they tried to spot her from the observation deck. seeing her from there is tricky. if she's facing upstream, only the tips of her wings and tail are visible from the deck. if she's facing downstream, her head shows, but that's all. going to the end of the walkway is the best way to spot her. then, once one knows exactly where to look, she may be visible all the way up the walkway to the observation deck.

i still have not seen more than two eggs, and that only once. yesterday she lifted her body up and skootched the eggs around (is that a word) still keeping her wings and retrices in contact with the surface of the scrape/nest.

a quick web search of the term falcon cam will get hits on several other pairs nesting across the northern tier of state. that leads me to believe mating and nesting in peregrines are mediated by day length rather than weather. does anybody know?

regards,

t
