Sightings for Friday, March 28th

A BARRED OWL and 2 RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS were seen in Vancouver?s
Pacific Spirit Park, just off the Imperial Trail.

A WESTERN MEADOWLARK singing in the west meadow at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver was quite unusual for that area.

Sightings for Wednesday, March 26th

A migrant flock of 20 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS was seen at the Van
Dusen Botanical Garden near Oak and 37th Avenue in Vancouver.

The TOWNSEND?S WARBLER which has stayed all winter was still
coming to a feeder in the 3000 block of Spuraway in Coquitlam.

Sightings for Monday, March 24th

The immature HARRIS?S SPARROW was still feeding with other crowned
sparrows along 188th Street about a block south of 8th Avenue in Surrey.

Four EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen along 96th Street in Delta,
just south of Hornby Drive.

Eight AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, the largest flock seen this year, were
along the Boundary Bay dyke just east of 72nd Street in Delta, and one more
was along 72nd Street near 36th Avenue. Also in Delta, 5 SNOW BUNTINGS
were seen partway out the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, and 2 AMERICAN
KESTRELS were along 64th Street near Boundary Bay.

Sightings for Sunday, March 23rd

The first TOWNSEND?S SOLITAIRE of the spring migration was seen on
Alderside Road in Port Moody.

In Abbotsford, east of Vancouver, an early TURKEY VULTURE was seen
near the Whatcom Road exit from Highway 1.


Sightings for Saturday, March 22nd

Four SANDHILL CRANES, 8 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, and 4 RED
CROSSBILLS were seen at Minnekhada Regional Park and vicinity in
Coquitlam.

Also in Coquitlam, a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and
6 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen at Colony Farm Park. Another RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD was in the 2200 block of 196th Street in Langley.

In North Vancouver, a BAND-TAILED PIGEON and a SLATE-COLOURED
JUNCO were in a yard in the 2100 block of Bowser Avenue.


Sightings for Friday, March 21st

Two YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and a WESTERN MEADOWLARK
were seen at Deer Lake in Burnaby.

Sightings for Wednesday, March 19th

The drake EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen again at the Beach
Grove lagoon at the east end of 12th Avenue on Boundary Bay in Delta.

A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen in the 4100 block of River Road
in Delta, west of Ladner.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 18th

Two adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, a VIRGINIA RAIL, and a
female RING-NECKED DUCK were seen at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.
Nearby, an adult MUTE SWAN was at the Westham Island bridge, and a
NORTHERN SHRIKE was on 33A Avenue near 34th Street.

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, likely a spring arrival, was seen at the
Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

Three RING-NECKED DUCKS were at the Latimer Pond at 26th Avenue
and 192nd Street in Surrey.

Sightings for Monday, March 17th

A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was reported over the breakwater at the
Tsawwassen ferry terminal in Delta, and a SURFBIRD was also at the terminal.

A ?Red? FOX SPARROW, presumably one of the eastern subspecies,
was seen in a yard on Oakhill Place in Burnaby.


Sightings for Sunday, March 16th

The BRAMBLING was seen briefly at Belcarra.

The CLARK?S GREBE was seen with WESTERN GREBES close to the
Westham Island bridge in Delta, and the GOLDEN EAGLE had moved to
Brunswick Point in Delta, where it was harassing SNOW GEESE.

A SAY?S PHOEBE was reported from Deer Lake in Burnaby.

In Delta, a GYRFALCON was seen along Highway 10 east of 112th Street;
an adult WESTERN GULL along Hornby Drive at 96th Street, and
another on the shoreline near the Beach Grove lagoon; 4 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS along the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, and a WILLET
at the jetty base; and 5 AMERICAN PIPITS on the turf farm along 72nd
Street.


Sightings for Saturday, March 15th

A BRAMBLING, likely an immature male, has been visiting a feeder at 3712
Bedwell Bay Road in Belcarra since March 10th, and has been
photographed. Birders are welcome to come and look for the bird, but
please park on Main Street, not on Bedwell Bay Road. Please watch from
the carport doorway to avoid frightening the bird, and come between 8-10
AM and 2-6 PM, when the bird is most often seen.

The immature GOSHAWK at Jericho Park in Vancouver, present there
since mid-January, was seen again there today.

The immature GOLDEN EAGLE was present for the second day in a row
in the 4800 block of 28th Avenue in Delta, south of Deltaport Way.

A lone SNOW BUNTING and a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER were seen
along the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta.


Sightings for Friday, March 14th

The immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen again near the east
pond in Vancouver?s Jericho Park. Another NORTHERN GOSHAWK
was reported along 64th Street in Delta.

An immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen and photographed in the 4800
block of 28th Avenue in Delta, west of Highway 17.

Sightings for Wednesday, March 12th

At Surrey Lake, east of 152nd Street near 76th Avenue in Surrey, were a
drake REDHEAD, a RING-NECKED DUCK, and 2 CACKLING GEESE.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 11th

The TUFTED DUCK X SCAUP hybrid was seen again on Lost Lagoon in
Vancouver?s Stanley Park, where it has been for about 3 weeks.


Sightings for Monday, March 10th

In Delta, an adult GYRFALCON was seen along 64th Street between
Highway 10 and Highway 99; 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS were seen along
64th Street; and 4 SHORT-EARED OWL were near the foot of 72nd Street
on Boundary Bay.

In North Vancouver, a SAY?S PHOEBE was seen near Lonsdale Avenue.

An ANNA?S HUMMINGBIRD is being seen regularly in the alpine garden section
of the University of BC Botanical Garden.


Sightings for Sunday, March 9th

An early RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen along the Imperial Trail in
Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver.


Sightings for Saturday, March 8th

A BARRED OWL was heard hooting in mid-afternoon near the equestrian ring
at Joe Brown Park, off 125A Street in Surrey, and a HUTTON?S VIREO was
heard singing nearby.

The first RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year was seen at Point Roberts,
Washington.

Three PINE GROSBEAKS, 2 males and a female, were seen on Selkirk
Crescent in Coquitlam.

Large numbers of RED CROSSBILLS and EVENING GROSBEAKS were
seen in the Squamish area north of Vancouver.
